Hirudotherapy – what is it?
Hirudotherapy is nothing more than the application of leeches for medical purposes. Of course, these are not ordinary leeches caught in a nearby pond. Only medicinal leeches are used for hirudotherapy, bred in certified laboratories, in compliance with strict standards of cleanliness.
Leeches produce from 120 to 150 compounds that they release into the human body. These substances have anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous effects, among other things. You can read more about them in our post What does leech treatment look like ?
When does hirudotherapy help?
Leech therapy is used for a whole range of ailments. The beneficial properties of this natural method have long been scientifically confirmed. Hirudotherapy is also used to remove toxins from the body. Combining this therapy with a cleansing diet is very popular .
Leeches can be successfully used in the treatment of:

What is hirudotherapy?Hirudotherapy involves applying leeches to diseased areas on the human body. The number of leeches needed for the procedure depends on the problem and the size of the area.
ANY LEECH CAN BE USED USE ONLY ONCE. AT ACTIVETHERAPY WE ALWAYS DISPOSE OF THEM IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROCEDURE. |
Recommendations before hirudotherapy:
- On the day of your visit, do not drink alcohol, coffee or strong tea – they cause blood vessels to dilate;
- Do not use perfumes, scented soaps, body lotions or medicinal ointments before the procedure – it is best to wash yourself with gray soap;
- Seven days before the procedure, do not take anticoagulant medications such as:
- Acard,
- Polopiryna,
- Polocard,
- Vitamin C
Hirudolifting
Hirudolifting is a mask made of your own blood, from leeches previously applied to other parts of your body. It has a rejuvenating and strongly moisturizing effect. It perfectly copes with acne and prevents skin aging processes. The hirudotherapist cleanses your face, then evenly spreads the blood mask on your face and neckline, avoiding the eye area, of course. After 20 minutes, washes your face.
Who do we not recommend leeching?
